23 January   Audax Alpine Classic Cycling Challenge
   

The Audax Alpine Classic sees more than 2,000 cyclists travel through some of Victoria`s most spectacular countryside in the north west Alpine region of the state, including the challenging ride up Bogong High Plains road into Falls Creek.

 


11 February   2XU Falls Creek Triathlon
   

The 2XU Falls Creek triathlon is SuperSprints spectacular new long course triathlon that will no doubt become a “must do” event on the National Triathlon Calendar.

* Swim 2km: in the pristine Rocky Valley Lake (approx 17C)·
* Cycle 80km: a 3 lap course with full road closure on the Bogong High Plains road. An undulating and scenic course.
* Run 20km: a 2 lap run on beautiful running trails.

This February 26-27 2011, some of Australia`s most talented artists will call Falls Creek home for a week of be challenged and inspired by the spectacular surroundings of the High Plains.

The Falls Creek Artists camp has a number of very talented and diverse artists.


20 - 26 March   Terra Australis
    The ultimate Mountain Bike Epic is here. Finish Line Events are proud to announce the Terra Australis – Great Southern Land Mountain Bike Epic to be staged from March 20 - 26, 2011.

The 600km event will be Australia’s most challenging Mountain Bike event, starting in the Alpine Resort of Falls Creek and finishing 7 days later on the banks of the Ovens River in Wangaratta. It will travel through the Alpine Villages of Dinner Plain, Bright and Beechworth and is set against the majestic backdrop of Victoria’s High Country.

22 - 25 April   Easter Family Carnival
   

This April Falls Creek will again host its annual Easter Festival. There are loads of activities for all ages including the Easter Egg Hunt, the Eggstra-ordinary Egg Toss, FREE kids club activities, outdoor cinema, summit chairlift rides, face painting, sunset tours, colouring in competitions and of course loads of giveaways!

02 January 2012   'Big Fella' Festival
   

For over 30,000 years indigenous Australians have been coming to the high plains, in the shadows of `Big Fella` (Mt. Bogong) to share their rich culture.

The Big Fella Festival hosts some of the nation`s top indigenous artists on January 2, 2012.  It is a fusion of music, story telling and the Koorie Night Market.

This ground-breaking venture got off the ground in 2009 with numerous stall holders bringing arts, crafts and a range of bush tucker including traditional herbs, spices, roo burgers and maybe some croc and Emu.

The Hotham Challenge ride is a three day cycling event in the High Country. Over the course of the weekend you’ll tackle the mountains with the Ridewiser Crew, benefit from coaching clinics and a mechanical workshop, push yourself to new limits on the Hotham Challenge Ride and enjoy a social ride to a long lunch on the Monday. All rides are fully supported with a number of different ride options to suit all participants.

4 Nov 2011   Targa High Country
   

On November 4-6, Mt Buller welcomes back the Targa High Country motoring event for the second huge year. This international tarmac rally is run by event management group Octagon, also responsible for the acclaimed Targa Tasmania and Targa Wrest Point events.

Targa High Country will consist of a street stage in Mansfield on the Friday evening followed by closed-road competition stages on the Saturday and Sunday to Mt Buller, Jamieson, Eildon and the King Valley. The competition concept is drawn from international events including the Mille Miglia, the Coupe des Alpes and the Tour de Course, giving drivers the opportunity to experience the exciting and challenging roads in the Mansfield-Mt Buller region. The offical start and finish will be on Mt Buller.

Targa High Country is a fantastic opportunity to combine a world-class motoring event with an escape to the beautiful Mansfield-Mt Buller area. With each leg of the event finishing with the thrilling Mt Buller Tourist Road, the Mt Buller Village is the perfect place to base yourself for the duration of the event. A range of accommodation options are available, and there are a number of bars and restaurants in the Village where you can enjoy local food and wine.

18 Nov 2011   Australian Tarmac Challenge King of the Mountain
   

Mt Buller will be home to a new motoring event with a difference - the Australian Tarmac Challenge will hit the mountain for an action-packed day of auto tests. Drivers will battle it out for King of the Mountain accolades, with a hill-climb and final touring climb stage to the Mt Buller Village.

It all starts from Broadford (80km`s from Melbourne) with breakfast and drivers briefing, then hit the track with multiple runs of circuit sprints, hill climbs and auto tests. Lunch will be provided on the day. Once your runs are completed you can begin the trek from Broadford through Strathcreek, and on the way to the fabulous mountain drive up to the village of Mt Buller where you`ll have one more gymkhana to complete a huge day of motorsport. Dinner will be provided that evening.

Day 2 will be a combination of gymkhanas, hill climbs, auto speed tests and a 9km spirited drive up the mountain road.

Breakfast, lunch and presentation dinner with live entertainment are all included.

All you need is your CAMS L2 license, 1 KG fire extinguisher fitted and a Helmet that complies with Australian standards.

15-22 Jan 2012   Chamber Music Summer School
   

Chamber Music Summer School - Mount Buller runs each January at the Mount Buller Ski village situated in the north-eastern alps of Victoria. This residential school caters for up to 12 chamber string groups, composed mainly of string players. The 2012 school will take place between January 15 and 22. Pre-organisation of the summer school is carried out each year by an experienced committee who also attend the school.

Professional direction and running of the summer school are provided by visiting staff who vary each year. For January 2012 overall direction will be by Wilma Smith (Artistic Director), Wilma will bring with her eminent Australian musicians and educators Natsuko Yoshimoto, Caroline Henbest, Michael Goldschlager, Ian Munro and Micheál McCarthy.

Public performances by some of Australia`s finest chamber musicians can be enjoyed in the beautiful surroundings of the Mt Buller Chapel - at 8.30pm on Friday 20 and 3.00pm on Saturday 21 January.

Exploring Botanical Illustration in the Alps with Helen Burrows.

Helen Burrows, whose botanical watercolour illustrations are represented in the Victorian National Herbarium collection and galleries throughout Australia and overseas will conduct a wonderful 3 day course exploring and illustrating Mt Buller`s unique alpine flora. Helen has developed a comprehensive course schedule that will include guided nature walks around Mt Buller, talks on the alpine environment and field trips to explore the alpine flora in detail. This course is suitable participants of all levels of ability, from beginners to advanced, who wish to observe, explore and illustrate the plant world in the Alps.

This course provides a framework to foster artistic confidence with media, further develop technical skills and for those artists who need to review their practice; working in a caring, supportive environment and customised for the participants` needs and requirements. Activities are designed to encourage visual thinking and evaluate the botanical world through new perspectives, while nurturing a personal artistic style.

As part of the annual Tour De Flavour Festival, the Mansfield-Mt Buller Road Race will be held on Sunday 18th March.

The event will take in the stunning scenery and gruelling challenge of the Mt Buller Tourist Road, and 16km uphill ride from Mirimbah at the base of the mountain right up to the Mt Buller Village - a climb that rises 909 vertical metres in height, with an average grade of 6% and a number of sections that reach 12%.

The Lake Mountain Sprint

26th & 27th of November 2011

The Lake Mountain sprint is a tarmac car rally made up of timed runs between the Lake Mountain ticket box and the main village car park. Viewing points located at Kelly’s Paddock, Arnold Gap and Snowy Hill offer spectators the opportunity to see the drivers in action.

Unfortunately due to the Black Saturday bushfires in 2009 the event had to be cancelled, but was back in 2010 with more vehicle entries than ever before.

Traditionally the event has taken place in March, however Lake Mountain looks forward to hosting the event later 2011. Further information, including a date will be posted on the website once confirmed.

It’s on again! Bigger and better with new and
longer course options.

The inaugural Granite Grind was held on the 20th
February 2010 attracting almost 200 mountain bike riders.
Held in conjunction with the Marysville Lake Mountain Challenge, the event
forms part of a very successful cycling weekend for the area.

Based on a 10km single track loop with one, two or
three lap courses. Race options for all ages and levels of ability. Great
prizes up for grabs.

Free Event T-Shirt for the first 300 entrants.
Race Entry includes meal voucher and entrant pack.

Marysville - Lake Mountain Challenge

The Marysville Lake Mountain Challenge was started in 2009 as a fire relief ride to raise money for the local community and attract visitors back to the area, with over 1500 cyclists entering.

In 2010 the event was another huge success with over 1100 riders and almost $40,000 raised for the local CFA and SES.

The event is a recreational ride with various entrant options including 35, 60, 80 and 120km distances.

The event is expected to be as successful as ever in 2011.

From Friday 9th March to Monday 12th March 2012.

A day of great music, market stalls, environmental displays and local food and wine... all in a spectacular alpine environment.

A four day music festival with live music and entertainment, food, wine, local produce, arts and crafts, local retailers and much more.  A great way to explore te Marysville Triangle area, with live music and entertainment stationed at a different location over the four days.

The 2012 MT BAW BAW SPRINT (motorsports) will consist of 10 timed runs over 2 days, with the best 9 times combined to work out the overall winner.

The access road is steeper than any other mountain resort road in Australia, and features numerous hairpins and tight turns as it winds its way up the 10km Tourist Road to the resort village. With all competitors based on the mountain, the event is sure to live up to the MOUNTAIN MOTORSPORTS reputation socially.
